meet the star of today’s photoshoot –  my very special remington 3b, she may not have the complete usual keys and the mambo jambo of other usual funtionalities but she is a limited edition! only 5706 was built during the depression era of 1939, for a brief period of 6 months. love!!

read more here – richard’s (the typewriter guru) account of this beauty.

‘3’ gets repeated many times here – a coincidence? 🙂

stay tuned for more of their stories and typecasts …

thank you for visiting.

cheers!

karen 😉

typewriter art – first attempt

No where near the great artist Keira Rathbone. lol!

A rush job but fun! I’ll attempt a more serious theme next- perhaps a dragon? 🙂

*my heart wept, i braved myself … a bit drama-mama here. lol.  in short, very UPSET!

some major injuries –

  • metal spool and ribbon out-of-place, not a good sign. it danced happily and scarred its body
  • a very deep cut in on the right
  • ribbon reverse button knocked into body
  • key ‘6’ badly bent
  • small scratches elsewhere, everywhere

her serial nos is P131243 which dates this machine to 1939-1940.

her key slugs are very sharp, cutting /punching the paper at times. why is that so? platen too hard? do you know?

diy customisation

i found 2 more candidates suitable for a makeover – another olivetti lettera 35 and an olympia traveller de luxe.

this time i painted the olivetti, baby blue. see the earlier post where i painted one pink here. that one has a pica typeface and this, elite. this model is a good candidate for customisation because it is easy to take apart its ‘clam shell’ body.

this is a more challenging model, an olympia traveller de luxe before the makeover, in drabby office colour.

20120929-183457.jpg

started late morning unscrewing all parts that could be unscrewed from the ‘outside’…

20120929-183511.jpg

i took many photos along the way, so worried i cannot remember which screw belonged to which part. some, i taped to the parts. 🙂

20120929-183606.jpg

i took a few hours to unscrew and clean the typewriter. it was not a good idea to do it on the floor. a lot of bending forward  and i ended up with a painful back. Ouch, ouch !

took a break afterwards to straighten up my ‘vintage’ back bone and ‘smell’ some orchids and fern to re-charge for the next important part of project – spray painting.

Here she is, transformed from late morning till late evening!

cant wait to blog about this gorgeous tappy next, a sneak peak 🙂

till then, have a great weekend and thank you for dropping by!

happiness turned sadness

I received 3 typewriters parcels today and all three suffered some sort of damages. Sigh…

Do you have similar experiences with buying typewriters from overseas?

how fast do typewriters ‘multiply’?

i bought a vintage cabinet to house my typewriters when they started to invade my dining table, chairs, bedrooms… they were here, there and everywhere.

this photo was taken in mid jul, 2 months ago.

they have since ‘multiplied’ fast and started to invade other areas again.

‘there are a few not in picture, a few away at the tappy clinic, and a few on their way. my mistress is a tappy-holic!  i wish she will spend more time with me than those darn typewriters,  woof…!’

if you can choose only one – a typewriter or a friend?

read tom’s and adwoa’s latest blog post typed with epoca typeface and got me excited with mine. hey, this rhymed. lol!
